The issue was discovered when the practice’s autoclave flagged a problem with the quality of the RO water being used. Despite the team regularly cleaning and descaling their water distiller and consistently replacing the charcoal filter, water quality tests continued to show that the supply was compromised. At the same time, the running costs of the distiller were contributing to rising electricity bills, adding further frustration to the situation.
The practice needed a reliable, long-term solution. One that would consistently provide high-quality RO water while also improving cost efficiency. Following this, their autoclave engineer, Martin Ilses, recommended exploring an alternative system that could address both the water quality concerns and the operational efficiency of the setup.
The soluĀtion
When exploring alternatives, the team at Alan Wilson Dentistry had several key requirements. They needed a system that could reliably produce high-quality RO water for their autoclave while supporting compliance with required standards. It also needed to be cost-effective in the long term, easy to maintain and cause minimal disruption to the day-to-day running of the practice.
Based on these needs, BWT recommended a dedicated reverse osmosis system designed to consistently produce high-quality RO water for autoclave use – the BWT Thero 90 Pro. The system removed the need for the practice’s standalone distiller and provided a more reliable and compliant solution suited to their clinical environment.
