About the Company

Pentair is a precision engineering company specialising in the machining of a wide range of metals and materials. Their processes depend heavily on high-performance cutting tools and coolant systems, where consistent water quality is essential to maximise tool life, maintain machining accuracy, and ensure overall equipment efficiency.

Drawing on expertise across residential and commercial water solutions, as well as advanced industrial water management, Pentair delivers smart, sustainable water technologies designed to support operational performance while helping people and the planet thrive.

The challenge:

Pentair approached BWT through Certas Lubricant Solutions, an independent lubricants distributor, after experiencing significant water-related challenges that were affecting production. Cutting tools were wearing down far more quickly than expected, increasing replacement costs and leading to additional downtime. At the same time, poor water quality was causing scale build-up within cutting equipment and coolant baths, further compromising performance. Their existing filtration system could not deliver the level of water quality required for modern precision machining processes.

As a result, the business was facing reduced efficiency, higher consumable usage and avoidable operational disruptions.

The approach:

BWT engineers visited Pentair’s facility to assess the issues directly. During the site visit they carried out a comprehensive inspection of the existing water treatment system and conducted on-site water quality testing. The results confirmed that the current setup was unable to achieve the level of water purity required for the company’s cutting operations. Following this assessment, a new system was specified to improve tool protection and prevent further scale formation.

The solution:

Based on Pentair's operational requirements, BWT UK designed and proposed a complete system upgrade centred around the BWT MOVE Power system. This solution delivers high-quality demineralised water suitable for sensitive machining applications, significantly improving scale control to protect coolant baths and cutting equipment. By providing consistent water quality, the system supports extended tool life and ensures more stable, reliable production processes.

The result:

Since the installation of the BWT MOVE Power system, Pentair has reported substantial operational improvements. Cutting tools are now lasting significantly longer, reducing both replacement costs and downtime. Scale build-up within machinery and coolant systems has been greatly reduced, resulting in cleaner equipment and lower maintenance demands. The use of higher-purity water has also extended the intervals between coolant bath refills, improving coolant stability and overall lifespan. With consistent water quality now in place, machining processes are running more efficiently and predictably.

By replacing an outdated treatment setup with the BWT MOVE Power system, Pentair has significantly enhanced machining performance, lowered consumable costs, and created a more efficient and reliable production environment. The collaboration between Pentair, Certas Lubricant Solutions, and BWT UK highlights the direct impact that high-quality water treatment can have on modern engineering operations. BWT continues to maintain regular communication to ensure any future water treatment needs are quickly identified and taken care of.
